Arran and Oakley

horse photography

I met Arran and Mark a couple of years ago at the National Dressage Championships.  Arran wanted an Equine shoot for Mark’s birthday as a surprise.  I went up to their lovely home and had a fantastic day with them both, photographing Mark and his stunning black horse.I realised that Arran has a great skill in equine phycology.  It is truly amazing what he achieves through his knowledge, patience and skill.  We agreed that Mark and Arran would come down to the New Forest where we could photograph some of these magic moments.  We had a lovely sunset shoot at my home and the next day we boarded the ferry from Sandbanks to Studland and spent the morning on the beach.  Arran asked me if I would like to ride Oakley and I am still smiling from ear to ear.  He is so beautiful and and to witness a horse truly connected to their owner is a wonderful thing.  It is times like these I know why I love to photograph these amazing animals and how fortunate we are to have their love and trust.

Charlotte Dujardin – Olympic Gold Medalist!

Charllotte-1006bCharlotte asked me to take some more photographs of the amazing Valegro following their Olympic triumph.  I was so thrilled to be asked and couldn’t wait to see them both.  We had such a  fun day capturing the best of this wonderful horse and the partnership that both Charlotte and Valegro have together. I feel in a very honoured position to be able to capture these images for Charlotte at such a monumental time in her life. The images and the day that I photographed them together I will never forget!

BIPP award for South East Photographer of the Year 2012

I was overwhelmed when I heard the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP) had awarded me South East Photographer of the Year at the end of 2012 from my image ‘Sounds like Thunder’. It was taken in The Camargue in southern France last summer. I was especially pleased that this image was the reason behind the award because it is one of my favourites that I took in France. It was a pleasure to experience the amazing horsemanship of the gardians of the Camargue horses and it was thanks to them that i was able to capture such a powerful shot.

After all my years of hard work, this is exactly where I want to be, and hope I can keep up the good work!

My Silver BIPP Photography award!

At the end of 2012, I was delighted to receive the silver award in the abstract/illustrative category for my image ‘Evening Dream’ which was taken in California in the summer. I spent 10 days photographing horses and humans interacting in California, but this image really stood out for me. I was stood in a long grassy field discretely photographing the girl who was riding side-saddle on her magnificent horse in the sunset, and the evening light was perfect for creating the hazy feel to the image.

I was so delighted to receive this award, lets hope there’s more to come in the future!

My BIPP Gold award!

At the end of 2012, I was honoured to be presented with the Gold award in the abstract/illustrative photography category for my image ‘Sounds like Thunder’ which was taken in The Camargue in southern France last summer. I was absolutely thrilled, especially after all my hard work and the fact that I had to stand knee-deep in mud for hours in order to capture that shot! Believe me, trying to photograph a herd of horses galloping towards you at full pelt is pretty terrifying!! It was all worth it in the end.

Horse Photography

Equine photography has been a dream of mine since I started as a photographer.  I have grown up around horses and always had a deep love for them.  My first pony was a chestnut mare called Dolly, and she was the pony that sparked my love of horses.  When I began to learn about photography, I found more often that not I was standing in fields trying to capture the true essence of these beautiful beast, and in fact quickly realised that I wanted to be a horse photographer. This next set of images, are a selection of horse photos built up over some years.  Its so exciting to have been able to look back through much of my work and realise that all the hard work and effort has been worth it.  These images are hanging in many of my clients homes for their family and friends to enjoy every single day, and not only are these images giving huge enjoyment everyday, they have frozen a moment in history between a horse and its owner,  that will never be forgotten.  I am so proud and honoured to have been able to follow my dream as a photographer.  I hope you enjoy, and are able to appreciate each moment as it is.

Equestrian fine art images 2011/12

fine art photography

Throughout 2011 and 2012, I was lucky enough to be able to travel to various countries across the globe in order to photograph horses. It was definitely worth it as the results were constantly fantastic. There’s something quite special and different about the behaviour of a horse in its natural environment, which I feel was reflected in my photography. It was thanks to these beautiful animals that I was able to present my fine art portfolio to the BIPP who awarded me my fellowship which was one of my proudest moments as a photographer!
